Photographer Danielle Guenther’s shots shine a light on the less glamorous side of pregnancy.
Pregnancy can be a beautiful time in a woman’s life, but it can also be a tough one.
As anyone who has ever been pregnant can attest, creating new life isn’t nearly as glamourous as many photoshoots would have you believe… which is what makes photographer Danielle Guenther‘s new photo series so refreshing.
In just five photos (the series is a work in progress), Danielle successfully captures the reality of what it’s like to be pregnant: women trying to get on with life while dealing with all the joys of pregnancy.
Rather than taking photos of women in fields or perfectly-dressed bedrooms, lovingly caressing their bumps, Danielle has opted to focus on the other side of pregnancy: the cravings, the discomfort, the rupturing of the amniotic sac… and our personal favourite, the perils of suffering morning sickness at work.
Talking to the entertainment website Mommy Shorts, Danielle explains, “I think everyone has different views on what kind of pregnancy images they want, and both are beautiful, but my images are more of a conversation piece. They may be staged but they are also a bit more raw and honest.”
