They’re said to be born with life-long good luck and have an natural affinity towards water, but babies born en-caul are some of the rarest births in the world today. So rare that many mums have never even heard of it until it happens to them.
Which is what makes this remarkable video so special.
A caul birth occurs in about 1 in every 80,000 births, and refers to a baby that is born still encased inside the amniotic sac.
In the video, we see the obstetrician wipe the amniotic sac with a cloth and saying “hola” to the baby in Spanish. The doctor uses surgical scissors to make a small incision in the amniotic sac and the baby quickly makes its way out into the world.
